Farmers Condemn Unilateral Regulatory Action
The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association (OCWGA) and the Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) listened to today’s press conference by Governor John Kasich with great concern. Agriculture groups were not consulted on his plans nor were we asked to participate in today’s announcement.
OCWGA Announces Support
Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association (OCWGA) announced their support of the efforts by Senators John Thune (R-S.D.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) to improve the lives of America’s farmers. The Senators have proposed a series of changes to commodity programs aimed at making the Agriculture Risk Coverage program better for American farmers.
Statement on Designation of Lake Erie Impairment
Ohio’s farmers have been strong partners in protecting Lake Erie. The checkoff programs of Ohio’s corn, soybean and wheat farmers have made significant investments in science-based research to help farmers reduce phosphorous loss. We have aggressively promoted the use of best management practices among all our growers and will continue to support all efforts that protect water quality while enabling us to maintain food production.
OCWGA and Ohio Soybean Farmers Statement on GLRI
The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association (OCWGA) and the Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) today urged Congress to again reject the steep reductions to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative proposed in the Trump Administration’s budget. The president has proposed a 90 percent cut, which would reduce funding from $300 million to $30 million.
